
General
This advice is only for situations where you have unusual problems that require you to get into your internal setups. Please use
a typical setup unless you have Windows configuation problems. You sould be aware of software and hardware capacities before using this page.
We suggest that you do NOT use:
- Custom Connect dialer in the Netmanage Chameleon software.
- Trumpet Winsock dialer in the SVC Internet Valet software.
- Frontier dialer in the Frontier SuperHighway software.
- Quarterdeck dialer in the Quarterdeck Internet Suite software.
- SPRY dialer in the Internet In A Box software.
You may need to have the Windows 95 CD or disks for the following procedures:
STEP I : Dial-Up Networking
Double click the My Computer icon to see whether Dial-Up Networking is installed.
If it is, skip to STEP II. If not, please continue.
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Select the Add/Remove Properties icon. The Add/Remove Programs Properties sheet appears.
- Click the Windows Setup tab
- Select the Communications option
- Click the Details button
- Select the Dial-Up Networking option
- Click OK in the Communications dialog box
- Click OK in the Add/Remove Programs Properties sheet to complete the installation.

to install the Dial-Up networking Software off your Windows 95 CD/Disks.

STEP II : Checking for
Multiple Winsock.dll's
If you have a new machine, or have not had a lot of network changes, you can skip this and go STEP III.
You should have ONE winsock.dll in the \windows directory. Chameleon's, Trumpet's, Explore's, Compuserve's, Netcom's, etc. winsock.dll
should be renamed winsock.old. More than ONE winsock.dll on your hard drive will lead to problems in resolving hostnames. The Windows winsock.dll will equal about 42K in size. If you used
old drivers in the past, make sure you use the proper one.!
- Click Start
- Click Find
- Select Files or Folders
- Type: winsock.dll (in the Named Box)
- Make sure Look In is set to c:\
- Click Find Now
- Delete multiple or old winsock.dll files
STEP III : Network Software
If you have not done so already, add the following network components. You may be prompted for the Windows 95 CD/Disks
after each addition. Otherwise you can go directly to STEP IV.
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click the Network Icon
Client For Microsoft Networks
If not installed:
- Click on Add
- Double-click on Client
- Click on Microsoft
- Click on Client For Microsoft Networks
- Click OK
Dial-Up Adapter
If not installed:
- Click on Add
- Double-click on Adapter
- Click on Microsoft
- Click on Dial-up Adapter
- Click OK
TCP/IP
If not installed:
- Click on Add
- Double-click on Protocol
- Click on Microsoft
- Click on TCP/IP
- Click OK
The Network dialog box should now contain: Client For Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, TCP/IP
- Select Dial-Up Adapter
- Click Properties
- Select Bindings
- Make sure the TCP/IP box is checked.
- Click OK
- Click OK
Windows '95 may prompt you to restart the system. After restart, proceed to next step.
STEP IV : Setting Up an
OOW Dialup Access Icon
- Double-click My Computer
- Double-click Dial-Up Networking
- Double-click on Make A New Connection
- Enter OOW Dialup as the name of the computer you will be dialing into.
- Click Next
- Enter the appropriate phone number for your area e.g., Area Code (303), phone number (381-0161),
and Country Code (1).
- Click Next, then Finish
- You will then have a new icon in the Dial-Up Networking window with the name OOW Dialup.
STEP V : Logging into the Internet
using the OOW Dialup Icon
- Double-click My Computer
- Double-click Dial-Up Networking
- Double-click the OOW Dialup icon
- Enter your OOW Dialup username and password (note mail server POP3 address for is userid@officeonweb.com or your virtual domain name)
- Click Connect
- Click Start
- Click Programs
- Click the browser or e-mail client you are using (for example, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Eudora, Outlook)
- Enjoy the surf
After setting up your Windows 95 dialer, you should use the OOW Dialup icon to dial into the Internet. Your service is being provided
through the OfficeOnWeb contract with Oneimage's dial-in connection services.
ISSUES OR PROBLEMS AND
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
1 : Multiple ISP configuration when not connected to a LAN
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click the Network Icon
- Select the TCP/IP protocol that is bound to Dial-Up Adapter
- Click on Properties
- Select DNS Configuration
- Select Disable DNS
- Click OK/Click OK
- Restart Windows 95
- A Dial-Up Networking icon should be configured for each ISP. Each icon must have it's own DNS configuration.
2 : Troubleshooting OOW Dialup/Win95 connection problems
Symptom : Modem disconnects 3 to 6 seconds after a connection.
Note: This is NOT the same as failing on Verifying Username/Password.
Solution (1) : Disable IP Header Compression
- In Dial-Up-Networking, highlight the OOW Dialup icon
- Select File/Properties
- Click the Server Type button
- Click on TCP/IP Settings
- Uncheck "Use IP header compression"
- Click OK / Click OK / Click OK
- Double-click the OOW Dialup icon
- Enter your OOW Dialup username and password
- Click Connect
OR
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click the Network Icon
- Select the Dial-Up Adapter protocol
- Click on Properties
- Select the Advanced tab
- Select "Use IP header compression" in the Property field
- Select "NO" in the Value field
- Click OK/Click OK
- Restart Windows 95
Solution (2) : Force Hostname & Domain Name into TCP/IP stack
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click the Network Icon
- Select the TCP/IP protocol
- Click on Properties
- Select DNS Configuration
- Select Enable DNS
- Enter your OOW Dialup web site username in the Host: field
- Enter your domain.com in the Domain: field
- Click OK/Click OK
- Restart Windows 95
Solution (3) : Setup the entire TCP/IP stack solely for OOW Dialup
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click the Network Icon
- Select the TCP/IP protocol
- Click on Properties
- Settings:
- IP Address : Obtain an IP address automatically
- WINS Configuration : Use DHCP for WINS Resolution
- Gateway : 206.168.121.1
- Advanced : leave with defaults
- Bindings : Select Client For Microsoft Networks
- DNS Configuration:
- Select Enable DNS
- Enter your OOW Dialup web site username in the Host: field
- Enter your domain.com in the Domain: field
- DNS Server Search Order:
- 206.168.121.253
- 206.168.121.254
- Click OK/ Click OK
- Restart Windows 95
Solution (4) : Reinstall TCP/IP Protocol
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click the Network Icon
- Select the TCP/IP protocol
- Click Remove
- Click OK
- Restart Windows 95
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click the Network Icon
- Click on Add
- Double-click on Protocol
- Click on Microsoft
- Click on TCP/IP
- Click OK
- Restart Windows 95
Solution (5) : Change Modem Driver
- Click Start
- Select Settings
- Select Control Panel
- Double-click on Modems
- Click on ADD
- Leave "Don't detect my modem..." unchecked
- Click Next
- Select (Manufacturers) Standard Modem Types
- Select (Models) such as Standard 28,800 bps Modem
- Click Next
- Select correct Communications Port (COM Port)
- Click Next/Click Finish
- Go back to Dial-Up Networking, OOW Dialup icon
- Highlight OOW Dialup icon, select File/Properties
- Select the Standard 28,800 BPS Modem
- Click OK
